Kitchen Progress

Happy Friday!

I have been working on the kitchen for the past couple of days and have finally made some progress that’s worth showing. It’s in no way finished. In fact, there are a couple of things that need to be hung on the wall. I had a successful trip to the thrift store and scored an awesome item that makes my heart happy. I’ll show it to you next week!

I managed to shop around my house to pick up most of the decor items and I’m still on the hunt for more as I try to set the tone for the room. Setting the tone has been the hardest. My decorating style has changed, and while I have a ton of items that don’t represent my new style, I can’t see getting rid of everything at once. It’s practically brand new! So, I’m trying to blend them both until we can make the full switch. Lucky for you, I’ll keep you updated on my decor ramblings. 🙂

So there it is! What do you think?

More projects are coming it’s way!

Hands On: The Kitchen

The creative juices weren’t flowing as easily today. This post was almost named “The Grabby Kitchen”. But instead, I decided to go with something a little less grabbing and a bit more confusing. Ha!

Really, you have no idea what I’m about to discuss. Could it be cooking? A new tutorial? A new kitchen tool review? No. No. And No.

We’re talking about the kitchen knobs and handles. It’s equally as exciting as any of those other topics, probably more so.  Up until a few days ago, every time I went to open our cabinet drawers I would pinch my finger, break my stubby nails, or do damage to our cabinet finish. All compliments of our soft close drawers (which are truly fantastic).

The bonus of our knobs? They look wonderful. It completely changed the look of the kitchen and it quickly went from slightly drab to super fab. Everything ties together!

It’s the perfect “pop” against our dark cabinetry and goes beautifully with our stainless steel appliances.

Here’s the before:

And after again:

Big difference, right?

I’m on the hunt for pretty accessories, rugs and hand towels. The kitchen is definitely in need of a little personality!

Have a great one!

Kitchen Progress= Major Love

Hey there!

Long time no talk! It’s my fault, I know. Let’s just say that I’ve been busy.

First we unpacked. Then we washed… everything. Then we put it away.

I’m still on the, “putting it away part”, but have made some serious progress. The kitchen was my first priority and I was so relieved that nothing was broken during our move. (Big hugs to our amazing family that helped us move. I didn’t find a single item that was broken!) And, believe it or not, all of my kitchen/ entertaining items fit inside the kitchen. With room to spare! My family reading this can understand my excitement. I have a lot of things kitchen…

After hugging every item that I unpacked, I quickly turned my attention to our lovely appliances. They have completely stole my heart.

See for yourself:

I am obsessed with the refrigerator. I walk by just to open it.

We also added a center island, which gives us extra counter and prep space, as well as a home for my cookbooks.

The hubby and I have been busy every day with projects. He so graciously installed all of our door knobs, which I will show you a bit later, as well as some “in progress” pictures. Oh Boy!

House Update: Kitchen Cabinetry & Countertops!

The kitchen. This could be one of my favorite rooms to talk about. And this was most definitely the room that I spent most of my time on. All that time surfing the internet and sifting through hundreds of inspirational pictures has completely paid off and I am swooning over our kitchen.

Let’s begin with the cabinets. It was really the first item that we had to pick to set the tone that we were going for. I must admit that I really like kitchens with white cabinetry. My husband on the other hand, really doesn’t. At all. He likes wood grain, and I can’t blame him. So, we went dark. Totally opposite, I know, but we are in love with the final results! In fact, I can’t imagine it looking any other way.

Take a look for yourself.

Check out the mantle. Love. The cook top sits right below the mantle, and the pot filler right above that.

Sneak peak at lighting! More to come on that soon!

This wall… it’s simply amazing and this picture doesn’t do it justice. The refrigerator goes on the left. Microwave in the middle and the double ovens on the right. We’re still waiting on the top cabinet doors, which are glass. Love.

The view from our mudroom entrance. The sink goes in the corner and the dishwasher goes to the left of the sink.

Counter top & island view.

A picture from a while back, but look at those spick racks! It makes me so excited to think about organizing my spices. In the past I’ve always had to dedicate one cabinet to all things spice and baking. To be able to spread out the spices and actually read the labels clearly is a dream. The storage in these little pull out cabinets is simply amazing. I’ll have to buy more spices. 🙂

Side view for a little perspective. The top of the cabinets are missing the crown molding, which  completely sets them off.

A few of my “must have” favorite features include: the spice pullouts, glass doors on the top cabinets of the built in wall, built in trash can pullout, drawers below the cook top, soft close drawers and pullout bottom cabinets.

A while back we scored a serious deal on an awesome island. It’s cream with a butcher block top and looks like a piece of furniture. We can’t wait to get it in place.  I also just finished buying all of the cabinet knobs and pulls. They’ll really dress up the cabinets and give them the finishing touch.

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am to fill these cabinets. I’ve already started planning which cabinets are going to hold what. Problem is, I can’t remember everything that I have. It’s truly going to be like Christmas when we unpack.

Exciting news: rumor has it that we could be moving in this coming weekend. I’m not sure if I should hold my breath…. but I’d sure like too!

Kitchen Love

It’s been an important week. One devoted strictly to my favorite room in the house, the kitchen! To say that this room has been easy, is a huge understatement. In my mind, this is the most important room in the house. It’s the heartbeat of the home. The gathering place. Simply put- it’s a big deal. And  big deals require more attention to details. We all know small details make the biggest impact in a room. So, we try and think of everything.

Since I have devoted so much time to the kitchen this week, I figured you’d like to see what I’ve been working on!

Earlier this week I quickly fell in love with this (can anyone guess why?):

Let’s take a closer look at the item that caught my eye:

Any guesses 0n what had me at hello??

Well, if you guessed the pot filler above the stove you would certainly be right. From the moment I saw that beautiful pot filler, I know it must be mine. How terrific would it be to fill up a pot of water right on your stove? Pretty stinkin’ incredible, right! The hubby thought it was awesome too! YES! Win for me!

I spent the first part of the week researching those little buggers and trying to find one in our price range…. They’re definitely pretty… but pricey! Luckily I found THE one with a perfect price tag. It made my pot filling heart sing!

Next up is this glorious built in wall that is almost identical to a wall in our kitchen.

I can’t even describe how much I love the “built in” wall look. Literally, this is almost exactly how our wall will look. Just a different cabinet color, which happens to be very similar to the island color in this picture.

The same appliance layout will apply in our kitchen, except we will have cabinets below the microwave, where this picture has a small counter top. It’s been extremely helpful to “see” how one wall in our kitchen will be.

The other portion of my week has been spent on appliances. Like, seriously, probably 72 hours. Straight. There are a TON of model/ makes available. I thought I had all of them nailed down. Then I read reviews. Back to the drawing board.

I’ve probably been to every appliance store in my town and the surrounding towns. It’s that serious. I’ve had no problem seeing things that I like on the web, it’s seeing them in person that’s the hardship. I want to touch and feel and “get to know ya” with the appliances before I buy them. That’s been the issue. I finally found THE fridge though.

It’s beautiful. And exactly what I have been dreaming of all my life.

It’s pretty! And shiny! (Insert smiley face here).

Today, though, has been spent on this little number.

I love the simple lines and the slightly (in my opinion) feminine glass top. The hubby on the other hand, likes this:

I also like the look of this range hood, but we can’t find one in the proper size and price range. Plus, I spent part of the day with our builder deciding how we want to vent it outside. Let’s just say that we have options, but trying to decide what will look better in a kitchen with vaulted ceilings it rather tricky. Decisions, decisions.

My homework tonight and tomorrow is to research how we want the vent to look. I’m visual, people. And visual individuals have to see completed images. With Sheet rock. And cabinets. And tile. And appliances.

See my problem?

I’m off to search the web! I can’t wait to see this little spot of awesomeness come to life! She’s going to be perrty. Definitely the star of the home!

Be back later….
