Painted Sewing Machine Table

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to know how to sew. I was in a 4-H sewing group until middle school, but by then I was too caught up in sports and raising pigs and steers for the 4-H market, that sewing took a seat on the back burner.

Honestly, I’ve always felt as if I am a little out of place for my generation. I think that I would have fit better in the 1950’s or 1970’s. Seriously. Being a housewife has always been a dream of mine. No place has even been better than being at home.

Sewing fits right into that. I haven’t ever been one to sew my own clothes, but curtains, tea towels and pillows are right up my alley.

After my husband and I got married, my grandma called and said she had picked me up a really awesome sewing machine with its own stand. I was a little apprehensive that the sewing machine wouldn’t work, but after a good servicing the thing works awesome and even managed to help me make my first big project: curtains for our breakfast nook.

The stand that it came with had definitely been used. It was sad. Stains everywhere. Scratches on the surface. But someone had really loved this machine and the table. You could see it. Heck, you could even feel it. It deserved to be loved again. I was just the person for it.

With the help of a little bit of paint and elbow grease, I brought this lovely lady back to life.

After debating for what seemed like forever on a color, I decided on Heather Gray from Benjamin Moore. It’s exactly right.

I kept the original metal decal and painted it white for a refreshing balance against the gray.

It’s such a happy pop of color against the gray.

Since the sewing machine is old, I wanted the table to have a vintage-y feel to it as well. I think they balance each other nicely.

I’m still on the hunt for a chair to go with it, but until then, it’s fine with taking all the attention. 😉

Here’s to a table and sewing machine that have many good years to come.

Office Desk Organizer… A Makeover Story!

Thrift stores are my favorite… I get such a rush walking through them because you never know what you will find! Today’s project is no different. When I stumbled upon this at the thrift store, they had it labeled as a jewelry box. I guess is was possible, but I saw it as a desk organizer.

Here’s what it looked like when I brought it home:

Look how awesome it is inside:

How could I pass that up? I knew that a coat of spray paint and a freshly painted inside would transform this piece from drab to fab.

Let me just tell you… I LOVE IT thiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssssssss muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. How’s that for an explanation?

It’s the perfect addition to my desk and it makes finding my favorite pens easy peasy. I also like that I can hide stuff in there… that way sticky hands don’t run off with my favorites… I’m a little weird when it comes to pens, especially my favs. I know I can’t be the only one…

It’s the perfect addition to my desk. I love the versatility- it can do so many things!

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again, thrift store finds can be the best!

Big smiles!

An Office Chair!

Yes, the office has a new chair. We sold the other one, which really wasn’t an office chair at all, more like a dining room chair that had 5 other identical friends and a table to call home.

It was time. I went weeks without a chair. It was miserable! Every time I went in to pay bills, I had to stand! I hate bill day anyways, but with no chair it was pure torture.

One day I went on a very productive shopping trip with a dear friend. We hit up American Furniture, for her, and I walked past the chair of my dreams… seriously. It was exactly what I was wanting! I simply couldn’t imagine my office without it. And the best part? It was so reasonably priced! I had been searching high and low for a chair that would be comfortable, yet stylish, without putting of the, “Hey, I’m a total office chair on wheels” vibe. Know what I mean?

It wasn’t until I came home and was completely giddy with my new purchase and telling my husband how AWESOME the office chair is and how I hated spending time in there because I didn’t have a chair to park my tush, that he was like, “Why didn’t you just pull one of our other dining room chairs or folding chairs and put it in their temporarily?”……….

Well, I hadn’t thought of that… True story. I was so focused and motivated to find “the chair”, that I completely skipped the obvious temporary solution.

I tell ya, those husbands, they can be smart! 🙂

(Are you still listening, er… reading?… Crickets…. Ok, Great!)

So here’s my new office BFF:

There’s a whole lotta love up in here! That nail head trim had me hook, line and sinker! Seriously. I wasn’t leaving without this chair.

Don’t mind the shedding plant. It needs a good cleaning up. Or the pile of random stuff to the left of the desk. Just more projects that are coming your way!

There’s still a lengthy to do list for this room, but we’re totally making progress! And that’s something to be happy about!

Paper Wreath

Happy Monday!

We had a very busy weekend working on a couple of big landscaping projects… 4 ton of rock was involved… which had to be unloaded by hand. Enough said. More on that later though.

I must admit that I’ve recently become infatuated with The Nester’s wreath. So much in fact, that it was imperative I make my own. Seriously. So that’s what I did.

Easy peasy, really. I started with a basic wreath form, a thoughts dictionary, drew 2 different leaf sizes, and cut out about 562 leaves. That was the hardest part! Then I got busy hot gluing those paper leaves all over the wreath. So simple.

For now, it’s in the office. But I like it so much I may have to make another one for a different room. The wheels are spinning!

Major love peeps!

I love the texture of it. Every time I walk in to the room I smile, which means this project is a big success! It’s all about what makes you happy!

More later with the office. I’ve been a busy lady.

House Update: Tile, Carpet & More!

I heart flooring. And doors. And trim. It really makes all the difference in the world. I’m a firm believer that it’s all in the details and that they make the biggest impact. It’s amazing to see all of our decisions and choices come together. And better yet, to see our completion date get closer and closer. It’s long overdo and we are beyond ready!

Here’s where I left you last:

But, now we have our flooring installed! And we completely love it!

I talked about painting before, and just happened to forget a dining room shot. Here you go! I love the color. It’s completely fabulous and I can’t wait to see how it looks with our furnishings and accessories. Love.

Anyways, back to the wood flooring, We love it. It’s such a warm color and it looks amazing with the cabinets, which I’ll show you later….

We’ve also had the trim, doors, knobs and some lighting  installed. I have a date with my paint brush again this weekend. Our doors need some love.

The guys have also made some serious progress with our tile. They’re basically finished, but we ran out of tile, so we’ve been playing the waiting game for it to arrive. Tomorrow it should be all finished, including grouting.

Here’s what we’ve got:

Carpet was installed Tuesday and we love it!

The bedrooms are basically done. All that’s left is the lighting and window ledges. Yes!

So, here’s to a week with some serious progress! We are thisclose my friends!

Have a terrific weekend!

House Update: Drywall Part Three

Excitement is in the air! It’s been a happy day at the house. So much progress has been made and the house looks entirely different. I actually walked inside the house expecting to see a few 2 x 4 walls… crickets…. I stopped dead in my tracks! There are no 2 x 4 walls inside the house. Nope, nadda, zilch! They are covered!

Except the garage… which should be finished up tomorrow. But, the garage isn’t included in the interior portion of the house… so I’m calling the interior finished!

Can you BELIEVE this? I’m still in a bit of shock myself. For realz!

I mean, a few weeks ago we had this:

And then last week I left you with this:

But…. this is what it looks like NOW:

Notice the island wall… whoa!

Here’s what the rest of the house looks like:

Laundry room platforms!

Garage- the only 2 x 4’s left!

So, pretty impressive right? I’m completely obsessed about this house and it’s amazing to see the completion date get closer. It’s an incredible feeling to know that this lovely house will be our home and we can’t wait to unpack our boxes, which have been in storage a very long time.

Unpacking… sigh… the thought is dreamy.

House Update: Insulation & Rock!

Who would have ever thought that we would be THIS excited to see insulation? After a week and a few days of waiting for mr. electrical inspector, we are finally making some more progress! And it feels AMAZING!

The house completely changed today… it got much smaller… in a good way! The walls are covered with insulation and the rooms are definitely distinct!

Take a look for yourself:

Office Inspiration & A New Series

It’s amazing the things we take advantage of. Like a home office, for instance. Before we sold our house and moved, I spent so much time in our office. Between the bills, filing and working from home time to time, my office got a lot of use. Looking back on it today, I realize that it’s the simple things in life life that make me happy. Who would have thought that filing bills would have been fun, or heaven forbid, brought me joy. But now, oh ya. I crave office organization. Something fierce, really. Living out of a suitcase isn’t for the faint of heart. And cramming an entire office into expandable pocket folders is about to make my organizing lovin’ soul go mad. Seriously.

Because I also love to spend time in the room of my future office (much like my recently admitted dining room addiction), I figured I would dedicate an entire post to a space that will get my daily use and abuse. I CAN’T WAIT TO ORGANIZE! (Sorry for screaming that at you. It slipped.)

With that idea, a new series idea popped into my head. Why not do an inspiration post for every room in the house, complete with a style board? Once we’re all moved in, I’ll compare the inspiration board to the actual room. Could be kinda fun to see how the room sways me from my original ideas and inspiration.

It’ll need a name. Let’s call it:

Totally original, I know.

Without knowing it, I already kicked off the series with my post on the dining room.

Let’s dive into the second post, my office!

Here’s the plan:

(Source Information is below.)

Here are a few of my favorite inspirational photo’s.

Because it’s basically been a year since I have been able to file a document in the right folder, let alone organize and re-organize the space like I loved to do, I really want the future office to pack a storage punch! I haven’t even unpacked a single box and I already have hives. I can only imagine how un-organized everything is, especially with documents from the last year floating between homes.

My plan is to create a soothing & cheerful space that I will enjoy spending time in. I already have a good idea of the amount of hours that I’ll need to dedicate to this room. It needs to be a happy space, one that will inspire creativity. Since it will double as a home/ part time working office and a craft/ sewing room, it needs to have plenty of storage. And labels. Lots of labels.

Here’s to the office of my dreams! Hello budget!
