Fall Decor

I’ve been wanting to add a touch of fall to the dining room for a few weeks now. But, one way or another, something would come up and I wouldn’t get it done. Par for the course I guess, since I have ideas and projects everywhere.

While it is simple, I find that I rather like the look of simple and understated sometimes. I’ve been working on a slew of other projects, so simple and understated is best!

Since I have a corn field in my backyard, literally (check out the “Our Farm” page), I used that as my primary source for inspiration.

I found this lovely branch outside and thought it would look awesome inside… who says you can’t have a tree branch inside? I’m pretty much in love with it and the slight pop of orange and red it brings to the table.

Straight from the field and into a basket!

Nothing is more fall to me than corn, so I marched out into the field and started pulling corn off the stalks. Easy! I find it beautiful and very fitting. My husband was happy to have his crop on display too. 😉

For the golden centerpiece I just cut the tassle off of the corn stalk (the very top of the corn) and stuffed them into foam. Then I just covered the foam with fallen sticks from outside. I love how it adds a touch of rustic to the table and dining room.

Another fabulous thing: it’s all free. Everything I used was from the great outdoors or things I had lying around the house. That, my friends, makes me happy.

Big Smiles!

Our Dining Room

Happy Monday!

I know that I’ve been telling you I would show you the interior of our home. And I’m sure that you’ve quit believing me by now. The thing is, I keep changing it up. But I can’t keep waiting around to show you. So, this is our dining room. As it sits, right now.

Do I already have plans for this room? Changes to make? Art to ad? Accessories to buy? YOU BET! Let’s also add curtains and a rug to the list. Then MAYBE, just maybe, this room will be complete.

So, what do you think? For just shopping our house, it’s turned out lovely.

House Update: Tile, Carpet & More!

I heart flooring. And doors. And trim. It really makes all the difference in the world. I’m a firm believer that it’s all in the details and that they make the biggest impact. It’s amazing to see all of our decisions and choices come together. And better yet, to see our completion date get closer and closer. It’s long overdo and we are beyond ready!

Here’s where I left you last:

But, now we have our flooring installed! And we completely love it!

I talked about painting before, and just happened to forget a dining room shot. Here you go! I love the color. It’s completely fabulous and I can’t wait to see how it looks with our furnishings and accessories. Love.

Anyways, back to the wood flooring, We love it. It’s such a warm color and it looks amazing with the cabinets, which I’ll show you later….

We’ve also had the trim, doors, knobs and some lighting  installed. I have a date with my paint brush again this weekend. Our doors need some love.

The guys have also made some serious progress with our tile. They’re basically finished, but we ran out of tile, so we’ve been playing the waiting game for it to arrive. Tomorrow it should be all finished, including grouting.

Here’s what we’ve got:

Carpet was installed Tuesday and we love it!

The bedrooms are basically done. All that’s left is the lighting and window ledges. Yes!

So, here’s to a week with some serious progress! We are thisclose my friends!

Have a terrific weekend!

House Update: Drywall Part Three

Excitement is in the air! It’s been a happy day at the house. So much progress has been made and the house looks entirely different. I actually walked inside the house expecting to see a few 2 x 4 walls… crickets…. I stopped dead in my tracks! There are no 2 x 4 walls inside the house. Nope, nadda, zilch! They are covered!

Except the garage… which should be finished up tomorrow. But, the garage isn’t included in the interior portion of the house… so I’m calling the interior finished!

Can you BELIEVE this? I’m still in a bit of shock myself. For realz!

I mean, a few weeks ago we had this:

And then last week I left you with this:

But…. this is what it looks like NOW:

Notice the island wall… whoa!

Here’s what the rest of the house looks like:

So, pretty impressive right? I’m completely obsessed about this house and it’s amazing to see the completion date get closer. It’s an incredible feeling to know that this lovely house will be our home and we can’t wait to unpack our boxes, which have been in storage a very long time.

Unpacking… sigh… the thought is dreamy.

House Update: Insulation & Rock!

Who would have ever thought that we would be THIS excited to see insulation? After a week and a few days of waiting for mr. electrical inspector, we are finally making some more progress! And it feels AMAZING!

The house completely changed today… it got much smaller… in a good way! The walls are covered with insulation and the rooms are definitely distinct!

Take a look for yourself:

Dining Room Inspiration

I’ve never had a formal dining room before. Sure, I’ve had the type of eating area that’s connected to the kitchen, but never a formal dining room. It’s always been something that I’ve wanted. Just the idea of having a formal dining room excites me. My husband thinks I’m weird, but I think it’s cool to have a specific room to gather and enjoy memorable times with food and family. When we were picking out our floor plan I was adamant on having a formal dining room. He wanted to turn the space into another bedroom or an office. I wasn’t sold on the idea. I mean, the space practically begged to be a dining room. Why my hubby couldn’t see that I’ll never know.

Lately I’ve been in the “Dining Room” mood. In all honesty I don’t have a clue what that means either. I just happen to love spending time in the space. It’s like it wants to get to know me. To feel me out. To make sure I’m worthy or something. I’m rather sweet on it too. And when you’re sweet on something you want to show it a little TLC. Dining rooms included. So, I created an inspiration board with all of my jumbled thoughts in one organized place. Am I positive that I will use all the items on my “board”? Heck to the no. I like everything that’s included (obviously, cause I picked it) but I just don’t know if that’s how she will want to look yet. We’re still getting acquainted. I could find something that I like better. But I had to have some sort of finished image in my head.

So far, this is what I have come up with.

I’ve already started gathering up a few of the items. The dining room table, chairs and sideboard are still waiting for me to buy them. Honestly, I would have bought them months ago, but our garage turned storage unit is filled to the brim of all of our other stuff. There’s simply no room for anything else. I’ve now reverted to praying that these items are still available when we’re ready to make the purchase. I have to ask myself if I’m feeling lucky?

Because today is dedicated to all things dining room, here are a few of my favorite inspirational pictures. They practically make my dining room lovin’ heart sing.

See what I mean? They’re just pretty. And oh so motivating! I could stare at pictures like this for hours. All of the small details really make a huge impact.

I’m also running into a problem… it’s called “I can’t remember all of our belongings because they’ve been in a box for 9 months”. It’s kind of putting a damper on my creativity. Unpacking really will be like Christmas morning as a child, but probably cooler. If you can even image that.

See below for the source list details on my inspiration board.

I can’t wait to see how this room comes together. I’m sure it will be better than I could have ever imagined!

Clear As Glass

Hey there! It’s been exciting around here. Lots of things are going on at the house and we are getting more and more anxious for the big move in day, which in all honesty is still up in the air. Sometime in March. Hopefully the beginning part, but middle at the latest.

It’s still looking about the same, but cooler. The windows are officially installed! YES!

They made such a huge difference on the interior and exterior of our home. And it’s warmer inside. Our heater really bites right now. Just sayin’. But the air conditioner, she’s blowing at full steam! Hopefully we’ll be ready to start with the Geo-Thermal soon.

Seeing this come together piece by piece is very awesome. Here’s some updated pictures for your enjoyment, or mine, whatever.

Notice the roofing material all ready to go as well as the fascia and soffitt finished! Woot Woot! Front door should be here soon! Can’t wait to see that beauty.

Back of the house is just waiting on the roof!

Garage side of the house. There still seems to be a gaping hole on this side… I’m hoping we get to pick the garage door out soon!

Let’s continue, shall we?

Master bathroom window. Can’t wait to see this come together. We’re busy picking out tile and the such!

I’ve been using this for inspiration:

Similar, huh?

I still haven’t picked out the colors, but it’s driving me crazy not knowing… I’ve been laying awake at night with color schemes running through my head. I’m hoping that I find a fabric that I like for the drapes. That should really help. I’m partly thinking about painting the wall with the window a different color to add a little drama. That’s as far as I’ve gotten. It’ll hit me eventually. Probably in the middle of the night.

Anyways, back to the rest of the tour.

Welcome to our lovely dining room! Please excuse the trash pile in the middle of the room. 🙂

The dining room, much like the master bathroom, has been a mystery to me for colors. I’ve been toying with a few ideas, but still haven’t committed to anything. The decisions are endless. Should it be more dramatic, or soft and soothing? Soft green or dark grey? Creamy white or light grey? Every time I walk into the house I stand in the room imagining different furniture placements and color schemes. I’ll figure it out eventually!

The rest of the windows are equally beautiful, but I wasn’t sure if you’d enjoy seeing every. single. window. But, if you feel like you’ve been cheated of the full tour, please, let me know. I could even shoot a video of me opening and closing them for the full effect. Scratch that idea.

I’ll be back later to share more progress. In the meantime, send good paint choosing vibrations my way. I’d prefer to get some sleep sometime soon.
